The Bloody English Women of the Maison Puce
Alice Barnes, the wrong side of 50 and recently dumped by her gynaecologist
husband after 29 years of marriage has been seduced by a fantasy. It's the image of the Côte d'Azur--that land of sun and palm trees; of Grace and Rainier, Bardot and St Tropez. Surely if she could only have a piece of this, she'd be transformed? But when she buys her tiny studio flat in the ancient town of Vieilleville she hits financial and bureaucratic obstacles she hadn't bargained for, and her dream of living "la vie en rose" is scuppered when she discovers her fellow residents at the Maison Puce.
Meeka says:
I had trouble with this one, as the style went back and forth from narrative to story telling, to reminiscent; it just became confusing at times and took away from what otherwise could have been a good chick lit read.
