The Giver
Teen Fiction

An new world is upon us. A world where everything is perfect and under control, no one gets old, there is no war, fear, pain, starvation, or underachievers. At the age of 12 all children are given their assigned roles, their jobs for the rest of their lives. Jonas is given a job that few want and even fewer are picked for, he is assigned to be the new Giver. Jonas is required to take memories from the old Giver, memories of war, pain, fear, death, cold, fun, excitement, love, and colour. Now that the training has begun, there is no escape for Jonas. Can he handle it?
A book, that raises the question that we are starting to ask ourselves. If the world is too perfect, would we really want it?

Meeka says:
I found this an intriguing idea, along the lines of 1984 and thoroughly enjoyed it. A book that makes you think outside the book and wonder what kind of a world we are creating for future generations.
