In this, the second novel in the series, we are introduced to Barbara, Thomas's DS at the Met. Even though they
have a great dislike of each other, their Superintendent has decided that they would make grand partners in crime so they are thrown together on their first case. Out in the countryside, a lovable but simple young woman has been found over the headless corpse of her father. Sitting in her best dress with the axe beside her Roberta Teys seems to have done the deed. But for our sleuthing duo something doesn't ring true as they learn more about Roberta and her reclusive family.

This was an excellent novel, so worthwhile andthat I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. This is one of those books that makes you cringe to be a parent.
