A Fine Balance
Once the emergency measures have been imposed by Indira Gandhi in the 1970's, things change in India. Mass sterilization take place with people being pulled off the street to have it done. People are forced to attended political rallies and are not allowed to contact their boss's to explain the situation. People moving into Delhi can not find housing so they bribe their way to a humble shack in the middle of a large shanty town, only to see the town destroyed after they have paid their rent. This book follows the lives of Maneck Kohlah, Ishvar Darji, Omprakash Darji and Dina Dalal as they face their pasts and their futures together. Living through poverty, uprisings, abductions, cruelty and political upheavals these four find their ways.
Meeka says:
A wonderful book, heart warming and showing the indomitable human spirit through some of the harshest conditions India could throw at them. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cheered the characters along.
